Wake Up with the Wild: Your Front-Row Seat to Windermere Local Wildlife
There’s something truly magical about staying at Winderdome Resort. It’s not just a place to sleep; it’s a living part of Windermere’s Columbia Valley wildlife corridor, where the forest, lake, and wetlands all meet. When you spend your getaway in one of our Geodesic Domes, you don’t just watch the Windermere local wildlife—you wake up fully immersed in the natural beauty of the Columbia Valley.
Pick Your Basecamp for Adventure
Every Dome at our resort is your private window to the great outdoors. Each one is intentionally placed to give you a unique viewing experience of Windermere’s local wildlife.
- Wolf Dome: Find yourself next to an open meadow where you can often see majestic elk emerging as evening settles in.
- Bear Dome: Perched on a hillside, the Bear Dome treats you to a front-row seat of eagles soaring high above.
- Cougar Dome: This one is our coziest, nestled right by the treeline, making it the ideal spot for viewing the Mountain vistas.
No matter which Dome you choose, a floor-to-ceiling window ensures you stay connected to the landscape, even when you’re curled up next to the fire.
Day to Night: The Valley Comes Alive
As the first soft light spreads over Windermere Lake, a new day begins. It’s a great time to see white-tailed deer grazing near the domes while a lively chorus of chickadees and warblers fills the air. Don’t forget to look up—bald eagles and ospreys often start their morning hunt just after sunrise.
As morning turns to afternoon, take a stroll down the trail behind your Dome, leading you directly into our private forest. Here, you might spot Elk, Deer, Coyotes, Rabbits, Squirrels and of course our favorite – friendly and adorable Chipmunks! After your walk, you can cool off with a private swim in our heated pool, where you’ll still have those incredible views—just without the crowds.
In the evening, as the sun dips below the horizon, the valley’s golden hour begins. This is when elk emerge and bats start their twilight dance. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a red fox slipping quietly through the meadow.
A Different Story Every Season
The wildlife in our valley changes with the seasons, and Winderdome Resort is open year-round. While spring brings new life, from newborn fawns to nesting waterfowl, summertime is all about hummingbirds, dragonflies, and long, beautiful days ideal for hiking. In the autumn, the air fills with the bugles of rutting elk and the sounds of migrating geese, while winter transforms the landscape with silent snow and the tracks of ermine.
